High School Devotional Books (Part 1 of 4)…

All this week firstfreeparents.com will be posting devotional book ideas that can help your child or family with their devotional time.  With Christmas around the corner maybe one or two of these could be a great stocking stuffer.  We will do our best to cover all the ages so please come back every day this week!

There are a ton of options for teen devotions. To be honest my favorite devotional is the Bible and using one of these methods I covered with our high school students last year (you can find those here, here, and here), but I use other tools as well. Here are a few tools I have either used or recommend

A Godward Life: Savoring the Supremacy of God in All of Life
A Godward Life: Book Two One Hundred and Twenty Daily Readings

Studies on the Go: The Philippians, Colossians, First and Second Thessalonians
Studies on the Go: John
Studies on the Go: Romans
Studies on the Go: Proverbs
Creative Times With God: Discovering New Ways to Connect With the Savior (Simply for Students)
The Message//REMIX Solo: An Uncommon Devotional

Come back tomorrow and hear form Luke Uran on some great junior high resources.

Why Youth Stay in Church When They Grow Up…

One of the most asked questions I get as a youth pastor is, “Why are so many teens leaving the church at graduation and not coming back?”  We could be here for a long time answering that questions and it really would not be very fruitful.  I found an article online that greatly speaks to the “drop-out” rate from a proactive instead of a reactive point of view.

On the blog at thegospelcoalition.org I read three key elements that sets apart the kids who stay in the church and they are…

  1. They are converted. (Truly Changed)
  2. They have been equipped, not entertained. (Stop trying to please kids and start growing kids)
  3. Their parents preached the gospel to them. (The #1 influence kid’s lives are their parents)

Click over to thegospelcoalition.org’s blog and read their post “Why Youth Stay in Church When They Grow Up.“ I think it will be a good read for you weather you are a parent of a teen or a toddler.

Site Seeing 1…

I am a tech nerd and proud of it.  I do not serve technology I make technology serve me, and I want you to do the same.  Here are a few resources I think you will find helpful…

http://www.cpyu.org is a great resource for staying connected with youth culture.  Consider signing up for their parent news letter at http://www.cpyu.org/page.aspx?id=92061.

Not sure about a movie or wonder if a movie is appropriate for your family?  Check out http://www.pluggedin.com, a resource from Focus On The Family…they also have an app for your iPhone.

Do you have younger kids?  Take them to http://www.jellytelly.com.  This is now a FREE site that has some great biblical content, my boys (7yrs, and 4yrs) love it!

Feel free to post your favorite resources in the comments below!
